Each tire has a DOT (U.S. Department of Transportation) identification number printed on the sidewall. This code is made up of numbers and letters. Four blocks make up this identification number:
- a 2 to 3-character code identifying the factory that manufactured the tire,
- a 2-character dimension code specific to the manufacturer
- a manufacturing code specific to the manufacturer
- a 4-character code identifying the year and week of production.
For example, the following DOT code "DOT T7D3 1BH 3218" can be decoded as follows:
- Manufacturing plant: T7 - the list of plant codes can be found below (sourced from NHTSA)
- Size code: D3
- Manufacturer's code: 1BH
- Year and week of production: 3218 - week 32 of 2018

Prerequisites:
- Minimum image height should be 800 pixels
- Aspect ratio should be close to 2 (or 2.37)
- Text height should be around 15% of image height
- Orientation of image vs text should be as shown
- Avoid photo of mobile/laptop screens
